Aldi set to create 8,000 new jobs as it plans to open 130 new UK stores

Aldi, the discount supermarket store has announced plans to hire 8,000 new staff in a new wave of 130 UK store openings.

The £600m UK expansion plan will grow Aldi's workforce to 35,000 by 2022.

The plans come on the back of significant recent growth for Aldi, in April it overtook Waitrose to become the UK's sixth-biggest supermarket, with 5.3% of the market share.

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying, said: "Since we opened our doors in the UK in April 1990, we've worked hard to establish British roots, sourcing locally where possible and building long-term relationships with British suppliers."
