1,000 pub jobs for school leavers

03/09/2010

JD Wetherspoon has announced plans to create 1,000 jobs for school leavers over the coming year.
The new positions are aimed at 16 and 17-year-olds who have just completed their GCSEs and are entering the jobs market for the first time. Among the many positions that the pub chain will advertise are chef jobs and waiter and waitressing work.

The new employees will be able to study for NVQ qualifications and, if they progress to a pub management position, they will have the option of completing a professional diploma and honours degree. Mandy Ferries, the pub chain's head of personnel and training, said: "We believe that many school leavers will welcome the opportunity to work for Wetherspoon. We can offer them the chance to study as part of their work as well as progress within the company."
